Hayton is an agricultural parish two and a half miles north of the market town of Retford. The village sits with its eastern back to Hollin Hill, which, at 223 feet is the highest point in the area. Its western boundary is drawn by the River Idle.
It is a linear village about a mile in length running north from The Boat Inn to the Clarborough village boundary in the South. One of its most delightful assets is its close alignment with the Chesterfield Canal which affords wonderful walks that in turn link to a large network of local footpaths.

Technical Description
The Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 sets out a new audit framework for local public authorities which are currently covered by the Audit Commission regime.
Under the new audit framework smaller authorities, including parish councils, internal drainage boards, charter trustees and port health authorities, with an annual turnover not exceeding £25,000 will be exempt from routine external audit.
In place of routine audit, these smaller authorities will be subject to the new transparency requirements laid out in the Transparency Code.
