The Housing Act 2004 requires local housing authorities to maintain a register of all Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licences which have been granted and are in force.
That register has to include prescribed information (as prescribed by 2006 regulations).

A house in multiple occupation is a property rented out by at least three people who are not from 1 'household', but share facilities like the bathroom and kitchen. It is sometimes called a 'house share'.
